The inspiration for this piece came from an art history textbook of mine. This is the original piece [link] was produced in 1799. I wanted to create something closer to the original but I had a hard time finding the right stock image of a sleeping person. As I played with the idea it morphed into something very different than the original but with the same basic theme.
